For this week’s travel theme, Ailsa over at Where’s My Backpack reminded us that a few days ago it was World Animal Day, an international celebration of all the amazing creatures we share this planet with. It was conceived in 1931 at an ecology convention in Florence, with October 4th chosen as the date because it coincided with the Feast of St. Assisi, the patron saint of animals.
Until about six years ago, I have always had pets of my own, either cats or dogs, or both. I have some fabulous photographs of my beloved cats (Onion and Kuta), which I might dig out from the old shoebox one day soon, recapture and post as a follow up to this entry. For this post, I am sharing my photographs of animals (domestic, farm and wild) that I have encountered over the past few years in various locations around the world. You might have fun trying to guess the location prior to hovering over the photo for the answer. Locations include South Australia, Byron Bay, Toronto, Banff, Edmonton and Melbourne. Here’s to our furry, four-legged friends that so enrich our lives. May we never take them for granted and always give them the respect and care that they deserve as fellow sentient beings.
