Fireflies

Everything brings me back to you. I remember the night I first saw fireflies. Ethereal flashes of light penetrating the dense foliage of the jungles of Papua New Guinea. Seated crosslegged, alone at the opening of my tent, I recognized that moment as one that would hold significance at some future time. I felt the energy, the illuminating charge emanating from these tiny winged creatures and wondered about their life span and the gift of their presence. Perhaps they were the very same fireflies that had provided solace and hope for fallen soldiers who might not have lived into the light of the next day. I had one of those epiphanies, the kind we attract when we are grounded and surrounded by beauty and acutely aware of life’s vibrations. Those fireflies filled me with a sense of something powerful about my existence. In that luminous moment, I knew there would always be light and energy. All around me. Within me. And then I found you. And you told me, very early on, that there was something that always brought you back to the light. I’m thinking it must be the fireflies.

Now you’ve sparked my interest in what kind of ‘epiphany’ those desperate housewives could possibly have! Thanks for sharing your mirth.

That’s the second time I’ve seen the word epiphany in a blog in as many days. I knew the meaning but I looked for definition on the net anyway – I got reply saying it was a religious festival, a coming of new knowledge, and an episode of Desperate Housewives!

It made me laugh, so I thought I’d share it.
